You Saved My Life
My name is Brittany and I have a sad, but in some ways, a happy story. It is my life from ages 6 to 14. This story is about my success from an extremely sad life to a wonderfully happy one.
One day my 11th foster home kicked me out and told my caseworker to find a new home for me. Roger, my caseworker, brought me to Sue and John's house, who are now my parents. When I got there they said they wanted me to be their daughter. Later I left to get the very few things I had. My "Mom and Dad" stayed up late that night so that they could get my room ready for me the next day.
The next day I came to live with my new Mom and my new Dad. I wasn't so sure about this new family because the other families kicked me out just as I was starting to love them. Mom and Dad made me feel right at home, it was just like I always had lived there. Later I met my grandparents and my other relatives and they made me feel right at home, too.
My first birthday with this family was great. It was the best that I'd ever had. I turned seven and we went up to Chucky Cheese to celebrate my birthday. If I remember correctly I had a cake shaped like a gumball machine with gumballs on it. I got many neat things. I remember that I got many things that had to do with pigs; surprisingly I still have all of them.
For a long time, seven years to be exact, I went to counseling for help dealing with my feelings. It took five to six years for me to realize that I wasn't going to be sent away and that I could let myself love them. It took me this long before I could stop throwing fits over little things and/or destroying things. Later, like six years later, I realized if I had already done some pretty nasty things and they hadn't gotten rid of me I realized I could love them. I was really sad and happy at the same time. I felt sad because I did some horrible things and my family still loved me although I wasn't perfect. I felt so bad for being so disrespectful. I felt extremely happy because I found the family of my dreams.
Some people thought I'd never love someone again and Mom said, "We'll see about that." Mom and Dad made me open my heart and I'm glad they did. With my Dad's and my Mom's help, especially my Mom's, I began to trust and love someone that cares and loves me.
Now just look at where I am now at 14 years old. I am convinced I have the best parents in the world. Somewhat firm, but the best. I wrote this story just to thank and show my appreciation to a very special Mom and Dad.
"Thank you both. I love you a lot. You are the best parents in the world. I am very glad to be your daughter."
