Amy and her brother, Jonathan, had been neglected and abused by their biological mother and other family members. When Jonathan was five and Amy was seven, they were placed in foster care... but in different homes.
When Amy was nine and Jonathan was seven, Julie and David R. adopted them both. Amy was very happy to be with her brother and in a stable home but they both needed lots of counseling to deal with the emotional and psychological scars of their childhood. The family also received regular support and counseling through Casey Post-Adoption Services in order to learn how to work with their children.
Today, Amy is an honor student and a member of the swim team and her "little brother," now 14, is active in community theatre, plays on the high school football team and is a Boy Scout.
