The 2012 New Hampshire Diversity Conference: May 9 and 10
January 23, 2012The New Hampshire Division of Casey Family Services is pleased to present its seventh Diversity Conference. The event - “Beyond the Comfort Zone: The 2012 Diversity Experience” - is set for May 9 and 10, 2012, at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester, New Hampshire.
The Diversity Conference touches a wide range of topics, embracing the breadth of what the word “diversity” encompasses. The conference is rich with personal stories and affords participants the opportunity to walk away with tools they can use in their personal and professional lives.
This year’s keynote speakers include:
- David Roche, inspirational humorist
“I invite audiences to enter their own hearts and to step into the present moment,” Roche says. “As they do, they leave behind the things that separate them from one another and come to a realization of their common humanity.”
David has transformed the challenges and gifts of living with a facial disfigurement into a compelling message that uplifts and delights audiences around the world. The story of his heroic journey from shame to strength has inspired standing ovations from the Clinton White House to the Sydney Olympics Arts Festival, from most of the 50 states to Canada, England, New Zealand and Moscow. - Jessica Stern, Author
The world-class social scientist and expert on terrorism and post-traumatic stress disorder began her own investigation, with the help of a devoted police lieutenant, to find the truth about her rapist, the town of Concord, Massachusetts, her own family, and her own mind. The result is Denial, a candid and deeply intimate look at a life, a trauma, and its aftermath. Stern is one of the foremost experts on terrorism. She serves on the Hoover Institution Task Force on National Security and Law. In 2009, she was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for her work on trauma and violence. She has authored Terror in the Name of God: Why Religious Militants Kill, selected by The New York Times as a notable book of the year; The Ultimate Terrorist; and numerous articles on terrorism and weapons of mass destruction. She served on President Clinton’s National Security Council Staff from 1994 to 1995. - John Halligan

In memory of his son, John spearheaded the Vermont Bully Prevention bill which was signed into law (ACT 117) in May 2004 and only a few months after Ryan’s death. He also successfully led the passage of the law pertaining to mandatory suicide prevention education in public schools (ACT 114) in April 2006.
