The National Convening on Youth Permanence

THE 2006 RESEARCH ROUNDTABLE

The 2006 National Convening on Youth Permanence was hosted by the Annie E. Casey Foundation and its direct service agency, Casey Family Services, to raise the need for lifelong families for older children and youth in foster care to a national platform.

Through an introductory invitational research roundtable, the convening gave form and substance to what emerged as a clear commitment among the more than 40 states represented to achieving family permanence for all older children and youth in foster care.

The research roundtable engaged some of the nation’s most distinguished researchers along with policymakers, practitioners, and educators, and facilitated a multidisciplinary approach to research.

Topics explored included how permanence relates to other key well-being outcomes, implications for work with special populations and for shaping future practice and policy, and lessons from similar work in other countries. An edited volume containing manuscripts prepared for the roundtable is now under consideration for publication by Columbia University. To learn more, email info@caseyfamilyservices.org.
