Becoming a Parent through Foster Care and Adoption in Connecticut |
With offices in Bridgeport, Hartford, and New Haven, Connecticut, Casey Family Services works with parents to provide foster care and adoption services throughout the state. All kinds of people parent children and youth in foster care, whether as foster or adoptive parents. Our families comprise a broad range of individuals from different economic circumstances, diverse ethnicities and cultural backgrounds, and include those who are single, married, gay, and lesbian. While we need families in communities throughout Connecticut, there is a great need for parents in Bridgeport, Hartford, New Britain, New Haven, and Waterbury.
Teens in Need of Families in Connecticut
Susan, age 14
Susan is a sweet natured, shy, 14-year-old African American girl. She is very athletic and is on her high school’s soccer team. She also enjoys playing basketball and routing for her favorite teams.
Susan is very eager to please and will seldom verbalize a “no” or an “I don’t want” to people. Therefore, she will need a family who can help her to recognize the value of her opinions and the confidence to express it without fear of being rejected.
Susan has great insight on what she needs to feel safe, accepted, and like her peers. She truly wishes to be part of a Caucasian family with other brothers and sisters that reside in a suburban setting such as Monroe or Newtown. She hopes to find a family that will not press her into dressing “more girly” or to act differently in an effort to “fit in” with others. She states she is comfortable with who she is and wants a family that will be too.
If YOU are interested in providing this young lady with a place in your home and heart, please contact Cynthia Rountos at Casey Family Services 203.396.5751 for more information.
DP, age 16
DP is a handsome 16-year-old African American boy. He likes to bike ride and play football and basketball. He hopes to join a high school basketball team and eventually play at the college level. He also enjoys drawing and is a very good artist.
DP currently is living in a group home, where he fits in well and responds well to the structure. As a result, he is ready to live with the right family that can support his growth. He currently receives special-education services in a therapeutic school. He occasionally resists attending school and will need support and structure to encourage him in reaching his educational goals.
DP would do well in a one- or in a two-parent family where he is the youngest or the only child. He needs a family that understands that he has had a difficult life, and will need time to settle in and adjust to a new environment and relationships. He needs a family that can help him explore his interests and keep him on task when it comes to school attendance.
If you are interest in helping DP transition to a family, please call Bruni at 203.372.3722 ext. 5704.
