Foundations Push Candidates on Poverty

The Annie E. Casey Foundation and the Eos Foundation are spotlighting presidential candidates’ views on poverty and hunger. The centerpiece of their work is spotlightonpoverty.org, which includes video and written statements by presidential hopefuls. Articles about politics and issues related to poverty are on the web site along with news on local, national and global antipoverty initiatives. The project plans to sponsor candidate forums.

Andrea Silbert, president of the Eos Foundation, says foundations, which spend billions of dollars to fight poverty, must get involved in public–policy issues. "And in order to do this, we have to start this dialogue with whoever will be our next president," she adds.
