New Haven Together! is an enewsletter produced by the New Haven Direct Service Grants Program of the Annie E. Casey Foundation/Casey Family Services. It connects grantees and other community stakeholders to resources that help strengthen New Haven families and their children. "The Casey Foundation recently completed a scan of New Haven services and found numerous gaps," says John Padilla, senior fellow with the Foundation. "There are a number of reasons why this is so, but the bottom line is that there simply are not enough supportive programs to help families achieve some modicum of economic security. Research shows that when a family is financially stable, children are more likely to have positive outcomes and families are more likely to remain intact and safe." read more >
In 2004, Connecticut became the first state in the nation to pass legislation requiring a reduction in the state poverty rate. This bold bill sought to reduce child poverty by 50 percent within 10 years, promoting preventative services as a mechanism to do so. read more >
