Workshop: Motivational Interviewing for Workforce Development
March 08, 2012 at 10:00amMotivational Interviewing is a client-centered, evidence-based directive method for enhancing a person’s intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving their ambivalence. The method differs from more “coercive” or externally driven methods for motivating change as it does not impose change that may be inconsistent with the person’s own values, beliefs, or wishes; but rather supports change in a manner that is consistent with the person’s own values and concerns. This hands-on, intensive two-day training will discuss a new effective approach in working with challenging populations and provide participants with an opportunity to explore creative ways of integrating a variety of approaches into an effective therapeutic intervention.
Presenter: Stephen Andrew, Health Education & Training Institute
