Life Skills Program

Casey foster youth responding to community needs under the direction of the Life Skills Program, volunteered their help in several endeavors recently. Naming themselves “Casey Cares Youth Volunteers”, they participated in the AIDS Walk, raising over $700.00, and sorted, boxed and stacked over 18 tons of non-perishable foods at the Connecticut Food Bank. The Casey Corps also held a Holiday Luncheon at a local Senior Citizen’s Center in Bridgeport. They baked cookies, prepared gift bags, decorated cards, and enjoyed a rousing sing along, much to the joy of those in attendance.

The Life Skills Program, with other Casey division programs, also allowed the youth to be involved with Casey Camper Corp., which was attended by more than 35 youth from several divisions. This year’s topic was on making healthy choices and was held from February 20 to 22. The youth participated in workshops that focused on knowing their bodies, decision-making and how to deal with peer pressure. The weekend culminated with a Valentine’s Day dance and a panel discussion of Casey alumni about heir experiences in making healthy choices.
