Artist in Progress
The children of Casey Family Services got a chance to learn or refine their artistic skills with the help of artist Jim Dwyer from June 28 to June 30. Jim hosted a workshop in the morning for children ages 5-12 and an afternoon session for teens.
In this short period of time, the children learned how to draw objects in measured dimensions, worked with watercolors to express moods and seasons and made scale drawings of everyday objects such as a soda can, juice carton and a chair. All the participating children left the workshop with an array of art supplies to continue honing their artistic skills.
In addition to teaching children about arti, the purpose of this three-day workshop was to create artwork that could be used for the 2006 Casey Family Services Calendar. The calendars are distributed throughout the country. Hopefully, many artists in Bridgeport will find some of their artwork in the calendar.
Children who were unable to attend the workshop can still submit artwork. We are seeking two kinds of artwork for the calendar:
- A scene drawn on 11" x 11" paper that represents something you like to do with family or friends in a certain season or something that represents a certain season for you.
- Spot art (no colored background) can be drawn on any size paper. This drawing should be of something you think of specifically for a selected month or holiday
Artwork must be submitted by September 15. Please contact Shameika Moncrief for more information via email: smoncrief@caseyfamilysevices.org. or phone: (203) 372 3722 or (800) 332 6991.
